Yunji Shin is a ceramic designer maker who dreams of playful ceramic worlds. She explores a ‘modular mould’ technique with kidult and Kitsch sensibility. Yunji's biggest hobby is collecting toys and objects. They give her opportunity to imagine things that do not exist in the real world and ponder on how she can apply their playful elements into her work. Her recent works ‘Parade series’ are inspired by the humour that comes from the reinterpretation of places and uses that are naturally defined by social perception, often found in toys and animations. She believes that this process can go beyond her personal interest in ‘play’ and present the possibility of producing a small variety of varieties by incorporating the inevitable fate of the craft of ‘technique’ into design.
