The Amber Room at Cedric Bardawil

Event info

The Amber Room was hosted by Cedric Bardawil for a beautiful Summery month in Soho. We hosted twelve people an evening for three nights and then the installation was open as an exhibition for three weeks.

This iteration of The Amber Room was titled Sticking up for Soft and was centred around the notion of softness. The artists exhibiting explored the concept of soft in different ways, whether that be materially, conceptually or formally.  The space was transformed into an installation created by seventeen artists and everything from the wall and floor works to the glassware, plates, cutlery and napkins were made by the artists exhibiting. For the first time, the dining table and chairs were also artworks. Guests ate off a sculptural table by Anna Perach whilst sat on seats by Jaclyn Pappalardo and Christopher Taylor. When studying at the RCA, my dissertation was titled Sticking up for Soft and I have continued to be interested in softness in all its varied forms- as a physical and aesthetic property, a characteristic, insult, approach and response, the show presented an array of interpretations to the theme. The artists exhibiting were Nancy Allen, Sam Bakewell, Rob Branigan, Leo Costelloe, Lucy Ellerton, Lydia Gifford, Emma Mackintosh, Richard Malone, Jaclyn Pappalardo, Anna Perach, Stephen Polatch, Sue Ray, Freddie Robins, Ro Robertson, Rosie Reed, Alexandra Searle, Christopher Taylor and Isabelle Young.
