Hannah Tilson

Bio

Hannah Tilson (b.1995) graduated with a Bachelors in Painting from the Slade School of Fine Art in 2018, studied on exchange at the New York Studio School and graduated from the Royal Drawing School in 2021.

Tilson is interested in the human form, pattern and colour. She makes intimate self-portraits composed of bright colours and vivid patterns, elevating ordinary objects and placing herself in a vibrating space filled with patterns. Tilson makes her own paint, working with raw pigment, and camouflages herself in vibrating and fragmented spaces, viewing her body and the fabrics she is encompassed in as a landscape/pattern-scape. Tilson spent September in 2022 doing a residency at Palazzo Monti, was long-listed for the Ruth Borchard self portrait prize, 2021 and has exhibited worldwide. Showing works at the Royal Academy, Guts Gallery, Christie's, Cedric Bardawil, Berntson Bhattacharjee, The London Art Fair, Saatchi Gallery, Badr El Jundi Gallery and Bonhams. As well as working in the visual arts, Hannah is part of a musical collective called ‘This Is The Deep', where she plays the trombone and sings.
