Hugo Hutchins’ ceramics aim to counter disposable meme culture through a meticulously hand painted process that archives and questions the nature of his own algorithms.
Hugo Hutchins (he/him) is an Artist and Writer born and based in London. Working in a wide range of media from sculpture, video, writing, ceramics and sound. His work is unashamedly intertwined with pop culture. An aesthetic way of working that often fluctuates between the contemplative and the trivial. He thinks the best memes are most often found on Twitter - 10% of his iPhone camera roll is comprised of screenshots of them. He has an ongoing enquiry into the relationship between whiteness, masculinity and queerness. His debut book ‘Onedirectionfuturism’ exploring this relation has now been sold in over 50 countries.
