Sophie Goodchild

Bio

Sophie Goodchild’s, (b.1993) practice involves the physicality of the body in the making of structures taking center stage: craft, repetition, trust, territory and rhythm.

An inquiry into the otherworldly through the leading foot of the intuitive strange, linking the rural, the mythological, the folkloric and the historical. Combining traditionally hand-crafted techniques such as felting and ceramics, there is a pollination of information that infects and spans from work to work, in the fusing and preserving act of making. Her making, rooted in materiality: Saturation and Sensation as Translation, she embellishes layers- as screens- as cracks, through texture and density. An entangled order. Material as universal. Making as ambition. Making as challenge- always. Sophie is a graduate of the Alternative Art School, School of The Damned (2019) and The Royal College of Art (2021). Recent exhibitions include: Significant Other: Bulging Water, Flatland Projects, Bexhill, UK (Solo, 2022), Within Reach, Sid Motion Gallery, London, UK (2022), Fair Art Fair Curated II Women, Unit 1 Gallery Workshop, London, UK (2022). She is the recent Artist in Residence, Troy Town Art Pottery and recipient of London Bronze Casting Editions (2021).
